Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) also called Cranial Sacral Therapy is now extensively practised around the world and continues to develop in popularity for a wide range of people.

Light touch is used to listen to the body. This listening enables the craniosacral therapist to identify restrictions in the body. This can be both in the form of physical tension in the muscles and fascia as well as emotional holdings.

It balances the nervous system by working on the craniosacral system which is the cranium (skull), sacrum (a triangle-shaped bone at the end of the spine) and the cerebrospinal fluid (that bathes the brain, spinal cord and the membranes around these structures) collectively. The craniosacral system is intimately linked to the nervous, endocrine, respiratory, lymphatic and all other systems of the body. And any restrictions in the craniosacral system can have a detrimental effect on the body and mind, resulting in pathologies of all kinds. Conversely, physical trauma, psycho-emotional factors, stress and disease can embed in the tissues and matrix of the body and hamper its vitality and inherent healing potential, throwing the craniosacral system into chaos.

People sometimes ask about the name craniosacral therapy and think it only refers to the head. In fact, CST works with the whole person and changes may occur in body, mind and spirit during and after sessions.

The therapy works as per law of entrainment. A basic definition of entrainment is the tendency for two oscillating bodies to lock into phase so that they vibrate in harmony. Entrainment exists everywhere in nature an example being fireflies entraining to each other’s flashes and coming into synchronization. During a session, the craniosacral therapist holds a high frequency of stillness thereby enabling the client’s system to entrain around theirs. This enables a state of deep rest for the client by activating the client’s parasympathetic nervous system (a state of deep rest) including the Vagus nerve thereby bringing the body to a state of deep stillness. This restores the body’s depleted resources and healing is enabled.

During or after a session you may feel calm and energised, with increased clarity of mind and a feeling of well-being. It is also normal to feel sleepy or groggy after a session for the remainder of the day. It is all a part of the shift happening within the body.

What we offer?

In addition to treating adults I also offer craniosacral therapy for children babies and newborns. Because of its non-invasive and gentle nature, it is perfectly suited for babies. This therapy just like cranial osteopathy, is effective in alleviating symptoms of colic and reflux in babies. Babies and children are particularly sensitive and hence very responsive to the treatment which is why they typically need shorter sessions than adults.

I practice Craniosacral therapy near Sutton, in Purley from my home. I also offer Craniosacral therapy home visits, if need be, and the price varies depending on the distance I need to travel to reach you. However, I generally travel within a radius of 10 miles from home.
